Whether you receive a refund — and how much — depends on three factors:
US DOT rules require airlines selling tickets in the United States to either offer a 24-hour hold without payment, or allow free cancellation within 24 hours of booking — provided the flight is at least 7 days from departure. If you booked in the last 24 hours, you may be entitled to a full refund. Call us straight away.
If you originally booked a refundable fare (often labelled "Y", "J" or "Refundable" on the ticket), you can usually cancel at any time before departure and receive a refund to the original payment method. Processing typically takes 7–20 business days depending on the airline and card issuer.
The vast majority of economy fares sold today are non-refundable. If you cancel a non-refundable ticket, the airline typically issues a travel credit (sometimes called a flight voucher, eCredit or future flight credit) in your name, valid for 12 months from the original booking date. Cancellation fees may apply and are deducted before the credit is issued.
Basic Economy tickets are usually non-refundable and non-changeable, with no travel credit issued upon cancellation. The 24-hour rule still applies — within the first 24 hours of booking, even Basic Economy can usually be cancelled for a full refund.
Some airlines provide compassionate exceptions when cancellation is required due to a documented medical emergency or death in the immediate family. We can help you submit the documentation and pursue a fee waiver — but the decision rests with the airline.
If the airline cancels your flight outright, or makes a schedule change significant enough to disrupt your itinerary, you are generally entitled to a full refund to your original payment method — regardless of the original fare type. We handle this on your behalf at no service fee in cases of airline-caused cancellation.
If you purchased travel insurance with your booking, you may be eligible for additional reimbursement beyond what the airline provides. Common covered reasons include illness, jury duty, work conflicts and trip interruption. Check your policy or call us — we can help interpret the coverage and guide you through the claim process.
